Welcome to the 2019 Season!

As a Kentucky Proud Market, we're excited to welcome everyone back this year to a bigger, more diverse, and accessible market for all. Below is information on our upcoming season's hours, weekly programming details, our vendors, WIC and SNAP Double Dollars, and prospective vendor information.

2019 Season

We’re proud to announce that the Covington Farmers Market will be year-round in 2019! We’ll continue our regular hours of 9 AM - 1 PM, and be located both indoors during the cooler months, and outdoors once the weather warms a bit. Check out our locations below!

May 4th - October 26th: We’ll be in our dedicated 3rd St. location, between Scott and Greenup Streets.

Programming 2019

Our programming will be consistent each week: formal classes and activities begin at 9AM, and Children's Garden planting, weeding, and watering starts at 9 AM and meets every hour, on the hour. Check out the info below for specifics!

May 4th - October 26th, Saturdays, 9 AM - 1 PM

Our “peak season” market is out doors on 3rd Street, between Scott and Greenup Streets, in the beautiful Roebling Point District.

Enjoy fresh meat and eggs, soaps and natural body products, sugar scrubs, fresh bread and baked goods, cold-pressed juices, unique spice blends and rubs, seasonal produce, prepared foods like soup, hummus, salads and Buddha bowls, plant starts, flowers, farm crafts, and more from our vendors: Covington CSA Farm, The Frying Pig Seasoning Company, Green Grrrl Wisdom, Hampton Ridge Farm, Metz Sugar Scrubs, North South Baking Company, Locust Ridge Organics, Rooted Juicery, Springcreek Farm, Pepperfish, Shady Grove Farm, Hilltop Farm, Baker Hunt Art and Culture Center, Moore’s Farm Flowers, Moore’s Farm Produce, Maridee’s Pies and Desserts, Catalpa Acres Farm, Rose and Mary Bakery, and Mud Lane Blooms, Luminocity Coffee, and Straight Up Salsa.

Aug. 3rd -- Music by Mike Oberst (11 AM - 1 PM) Farm to Bar: Join us in hosting New Riff Distilling, Braxton Brewing, and Elk Creek Vineyards to celebrate another part of our agricultural heritage: libations!

Aug. 10th -- Music by Twig and Leaf (11 AM - 1 PM) Yoga and Adopt-a-Pet: Get into downward dog, and take one home, too! We're hosting FREE yoga with Covington's own Rooted Yoga. Additionally, find a new furry friend from no-kill shelter, League for Animal Welfare.

Aug. 11th -- Farm to Table Dinner, 5 PM - 8 PM

Join chefs Mitch Arens of Hotel Covington, Stephen Williams of Bouquet, Tricia Houston of Farmstead Market and Cafe, and Will Smith of Ripple Wine Bar as they create a Southern Comfort themed dinner-by-the-bite featuring our maket vendors' ingredients. Add music from Faux Frenchmen, raffle baskets, desserts with our bakers, and curated cocktails from Second Sight Spirits, and it will be a magical night at Hotel Covington, benefiting the Farmers Market.

Aug. 17th -- Music with Jessica Graff (11 AM - 1 PM) Kentucky Artisan Series: Join our dedicated regular vendors, and Kentucky Artists. This month, Jenny Urie of Earthshine Tie Die, will be vending beautifully dyed garments.

Aug. 24th -- Music with Kissimmee Kids (11 AM - 1 PM) Our City Pollinator Program is in full swing with butterflies, other poolinators, and education in how they fit into our food system.

Aug. 29th -- Music with Kryst Kruer (5 PM - 7 PM) Thursday Pop-Up Market Party 5 PM - 7 PM, Randolph Park: Join us in a new location for a mid-week market pop-up, this time, in Randolph Park. We'll have many of your favorite vendors, live music, drinks, and kids' activities.

Aug. 31st -- Music with Nick Sansone (11 AM - 1 PM) Salsa and Salsa: Join us for our continued seasonal fair, kids’ programming, and community festive spirit!

What's fresh in August? Beans, cabbage, carrots, corn, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, corn, potatoes, melon, summer squash/zucchini, herbs, onions, garlic, collards, cucumbers, beets, turnips, okra, radishes, apples, winter squash, flowers, meats and eggs.


WIC & SNAP Double Dollars

As a result of a grant from Community Farm Alliance, Covington Farmers Market is excited to offer Kentucky Double Dollars for WIC, SNAP, and SFMNP (Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program) participants. Stop by the Covington Farmers Market booth (green tent!) to learn more, swipe your card or show your coupons, and get matching value tokens/vouchers!

The federally funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) have been instrumental in providing low-income food access to the freshest food; and in creating a base line of support for farmers markets to build on.

In many rural Kentucky communities 25% of the population participate in these programs, representing a significant market impact.

A study by Moody’s Economy showed that an increase of SNAP/Food Stamp benefits by $1 creates a “ripple effect through the economy,” resulting in $1.73 in economic stimulus. In fact, the study showed that expanding these programs is the most effective ways to prime the economy’s pump (CFA, 2015).

WIC -- Matching vouchers of up to $6 per market day to be spent on fresh fruits and vegetables, and fresh-cut herbs.

SNAP  Fruits and Vegetables -- Matching tokens of up to $12 to be spent day of market on Kentucky-grown fruits and vegetables, fresh-cut herbs, and plant starts.

SNAP Meat, Eggs and Dairy -- Matching token of up to $8 to be spent day of market on Kentucky-grown meat, eggs, and dairy.

SFMNP Fruits, Vegetables, Honey, and Herbs — Matching tokens of up to $6 to be spent day of market on Kentucky-grown produce, honey, and herbs.
