In just a few short months, I will be terming out of my role as a board member of Renaissance Covington. These past six years have been transformative for both me and Covington’s Renaissance district. We’ve accomplished a lot together. We now have a more vibrant and aesthetically pleasing downtown, new traditions like the Covington Night Bazaar and several Shop Small initiatives to help our local businesses thrive. In 2017, we were recognized by Main Street America with the Great American Main Street America Award, the most prestigious recognition that a Main Street program can earn. Downtown Covington is only growing for the better, and I’m so glad that I had an opportunity to be a part of that change.
While we’ve accomplished a great deal, there is still more work to be done. This year, Renaissance Covington is taking the Covington Farmers' Market to the next level! The 2018 Covington Farmer’s Market will feature new vendors, a greater variety of farm-raised products, and we will have live music/ family friendly activities each weekend to bring the market to life. It is going to be so much fun! While I’m super excited about all of those changes, what I’m most excited about is that this year the Covington Farmers' Market will have greater accessibility options for patrons, who now will be able to use both WIC & SNAP at the market. This is a game changer. Accessibility to all is a key part of the Renaissance Covington mission. While many of us can afford fresh produce, many of our neighbors need greater accessibility (espescially knowing that poverty disproportionally affects women and children). Every child in Covington deserves to eat fresh and local food. Providing SNAP/ WIC access is the right thing to do for our community, and the Covington Farmers Market is helping to make that happen.
To wit, I decided to sponsor of the 2018 Covington Farmer’s Market at the “Sprouts” level, and you can too! For only a $100 sponsorship, you or your company can receive a dedicated post on Renaissance’s Facebook & Instagram pages, along with name recognition in promotional materials. Give because the Covington Farmers Market is our local farmer’s market. Give because the Covington Farmers' Market is fun! Give because we all deserve accessibility to fresh food!
